Polypropylene glycol is an extremely hygroscopic compound with a colorless and odorless appearance and an oily or syrupy texture. It is an alcohol that absorbs water and mixes completely with many solvents. Polypropylene glycol  is a non-toxic substance that has been recognized as safe by the FDA.

The FDA has classified propylene glycol as an additive that is generally recognized as safe, which means that it is acceptable to use in food and beverages, drugs, and cosmetics. The toxicity of propylene glycol is very low.
