Description

Maleic anhydride is a cyclic dicarboxylic anhydride that is the cyclic anhydride of maleic acid. It is used in the production of unsaturated polyester resin, pharmaceutics, surfactants, and as additives of plastic.

Maleic anhydride may form combustible dust concentrations in the air. It is harmful if swallowed and causes severe skin burns, an allergic skin reaction, and eye damage upon contact. It may cause allergies, asthma symptoms, or breathing difficulties if inhaled. Maleic anhydride causes damage to organs through prolonged or repeated exposure.
