Description

Heptane is one of the most versatile chemicals for industrial application.  It is a hydrocarbon that comes from petroleum and is a straight-chain alkane. It doesn’t have color and smells like gasoline. Heptane is produced in the form of liquid and is consistently ranked among the most useful industrial chemicals because of its ideal chemical properties. In the fuel industry, heptane was used to define the octane rating scale. Pure heptane is given a rating of 0, so all gasolines are measured against pure heptane to determine their rating.

DANGER: Heptane is a flammable liquid and a dangerous fire hazard. Heptane can affect you when breathed in and may be absorbed through the skin. It can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat. Exposure can cause headache, lightheadedness, dizziness, lack of coordination and loss of consciousness. Loss of appetite and/or nausea may occur. Repeated exposure may cause skin rash, dryness and redness. Heptane may affect the nervous system.
